Spoiler :
Lou Merrill (Louis Merrill)
Born Winnipeg, Manitoba, April 1, 1912
Died Los Angeles, California, April 7, 1963
Age 51 (heart attack)
We here loved him best as Thomas Hyland on Crime Classics but he did so much more than that! He could do almost any accent or any voice.
Spoiler :
Born in Montreal, Canada 4/1/1912; died 4/7/1963 in Los Angeles, California.
Merrill played Santa Claus on the syndicated Christmas program, The Cinnamon Bear (1937). Ed Neely on the NBC and CBS Radio Network soap, Those We Love (1938-1945). Aaron Saul on Point Sublime for the NBC and Mutual Radio Networks (1940-1944). Captain Craig McKenzie on Latitude Zero for NBC-Radio (1941). Thomas Hyland, the narrator of Crime Classics on CBS-Radio (1953- 1954).
Spoiler :
Regular performer on radio programs including Parties At Pickfair for CBS (1936); Big Town for CBS (1937-1942); Plays For Americans for NBC (1942); The Man Called X for CBS and NBC (1944- 1948); Smilin' Ed's Buster Brown Gang for NBC (1944-1953); Arch Obler's Plays for Mutual (1945); Rogue's Gallery for Mutual and NBC (1945-1946); syndicated series, The Theater Of Famous Radio Players (1945-1946); Escape for CBS (1947-1954); The NBC University Theater for NBC (1948-1951); The Silent Men for NBC (1951-1952); The Six Shooter for NBC (1953-1954); On Stage for CBS (1953-1954).
Spoiler :
I looked up Lou Merrill, hoping that maybe he had a long and happy life after Crime Classics. Sad to find out this was not the case. 51 is awful young to leave this life. He did such a good job on CC that, to me, it makes that program rank as among the finest of all OTR series.
