He began after finishing college as a saxophonist but ended up as a radio announcer. He never legally changed his name. While most people remember Jay for his work on TV (which won't be commented on here), he did a lot of radio. He was the announcer for Hollywood Barn Dance, Truth or Consequences, Henry Morgan, Duffy's Tavern, June's My Girl, the Great Gildersleeve, and Crime & Peter Chambers. He starred on What's Doing Ladies?, the Wizard of Odds, Second Chance, and It Pays To be Married.

Born in Chicago, Illinois 10/9/1905; died in September of 1979 at Chicago, Illinois. Studied drama at the DePaul University, then he worked as a salesman until 1934 when he became a barker at the Chicago Century of Progress Exposition, which led to his career on radio.

Madge Tucker Miller did childerens theater in South Wallingford at the Little Red Schoolhouse. I believe the scripts were published by her and if too many children showed up, the play was changed to accommodate all the children.

+ Duffy's Tavern. May 9, 1944. Blue net origination, AFRS rebroadcast. Adolphe reads the lecture about men's fashions (as written by Archie). This speech could take the "Hart" out of "Schafner and Marx!" Yvette sings, "I'll Be Seeing You." The AFRS music fill has been deleted. There’s a big crowd at Duffy’s Tavern tonight, and on the list of guests tonight is the movie star Adolph Menjou, and French singer Yvette. Archie's writing a lecture about men's fashions right now, for Adolph to read when he arrives. Miss Duffy (Doris Singleton) then gives Archie a telling off for bringing a French singer to the Tavern, instead of her own fine singing, before they bicker about Tolstoy...
