Fibber McGee and Molly, Fibber McGee and Molly, a radio comedy series, first aired on NBC radio on April 16, 1935. The series featured real-life couple Jim Jordan and Marian Driscoll as the lead characters. It was only in 1940 when the show became a nationwide sensation, topping the ratings game versus other radio programs in America. After more than two decades on air, and over 1,600 episodes, the show had its final episode aired on October 2, 1959. Three decades later, the show was included in the Radio Hall of Fame. I love it and spend insane amounts of time listening to it. I believe that every single sitcom ever borrowed alot from it. The chemistry between fibber and Molly is IMO the best in all media. The show also is the best at having subjects that are down to earth common people problems. Whole shows about returning bottles, mailing packages, figuring income tax, arguing with department stores, etc. Also it gives me a look into the era that no book or teacher could ever provide. I could go on but maybe you get the hint I'm crazy about it.

When I listen to an old time radio program, I not only literally close my eyes and imagine the action and dialogue going on, but I listen to a show with ears of when it was broadcast. If I listen with 2015 ears, I become cynical and, in some cases, the humor is lame and predictable. I an not suggesting Fibber McGee and Molly were hilarious

The shows from the early years (35 -39) and those from the last few years (55 -59) were not that great, but the middle years were great. This was after the arrival of Gildersleeves, the return of Molly from her absence, and the polishing of the many running gags. Still one of my favorite comedies.

I love Fibber & Molly, but there are other popular shows I could care less about. I think that OTR offers such a wide variety of comedic and dramatic styles that there is something for virtually anyone to enjoy.

Fibber McGee and Molly is one of my ultimate favorite OTR programs. I think die-hard fans of the show would appreciate the earliest episodes and the later years (the fifteen minute, then five-minute Monitor skits). Those all grew on me. The best years (for me) were 1939-1953 when Molly returned and the show was a half hour. Perhaps others may not care for it because they may unconsciouly look at it from a 21st Century standpoint, rather than put themselves in the era the show was originally on. That's what I do. It gives you an insight of the time period and how things were or could've been for a lot of people. Binge-listening on any OTR show is not a good thing, as any show would begin to feel formulaic, repetitive, therefore a little break is needed. Now, I've listened to other OTR comedies where the show could be a "hit or miss" with me (such as Our Miss Brooks or The Life of Riley). I certainly do not hate those shows though. I love The Great Gildersleeve and Jack Benny. I also love the detective shows (Dragnet, Nightwatch, This Is Your FBI, Johnny Dollar etc.), the thrillers & horror programs (Lights Out, Suspense, The Chase, Inner Sanctum, The Whistler, The Shadow etc.) There are two genres of OTR that I do not care for (westerns and sci-fi) because all of my life, I never cared for them. I don't hate them though--I see their significance and realize why they were so popular in their day. No, not everything in OTR would stand up today, but you cannot look at it through a 21st Century lens. You should understand the time period itself in which the show aired. I know I'm rambling, but that's how I feel about different OTR shows and my favorites.

No doubt about it - Jim Jordan was one of the greatest radio actors of them all, and you only needed to follow FM&M to learn that. He showed his mastery of the craft thru the role and show.

We had a closet in our house just like their closet and we tried not to open the door as the results were very predicatable. I think of that whenever I see a cluttered closet. Dad called it a "boar's nest."predictable

It starred the real life married couple, Marian and Jim Jordan. This series was broadcast by NBC from 1935 to 1956. From 1935 to 1950, Johnson Wax paid the bills, then Pet Milk from 1950 to 1952, and Reynolds from 1952 to 1953. Following the long run of this series, the McGees were host of NBC Monitor segments from 1957 to 1959.

FIBBER MCGEE AND MOLLY

I was just listening to a live stream of FM&M, and a commercial of sorts ran. They claimed that work related injuries resulted in a loss of man power equivalent to 100 aircraft carriers or 23,000 bombers. That's one reason I love the show so much. You hear the war in real time. The idea that 1 aircraft carrier was equal in manpower to 230 bombers is mind blowing. Also, illustrated the importance of labor movement on labor day.
