One of the hippest and generally fun manifestations of the SpyFi genre was the 60’s TV hit The Avengers. The BBC production was filled with British eccentricities, but the tongue in cheek humor, multitude of beautiful assertive women and constant action made it a hit with American audiences as well.

The show did not take off in South Africa, however, because of a lack of TV broadcast facilities in the country. However, after the TV show went off the air, Springbok Radio began producing a radio version of the series. Although some of the characters were streamlined and combined, the show was a long running hit.
