Wynn made his radio debut on WJZ-Radio broadcasting the entire Broadway stage play, "The Perfect Fool," on June 12, 1922. He became known on Radio as "The Perfect Fool" and "The Texaco Fire Chief" (1932-1935). He pioneered many innovations in broadcasting. One was live studio audience to react to his comedy antics. At one time he attempted to form his own network, the Amalgamated Broadcasting System, with WNEW in New York as the key station. E and W in WNEW stand for Ed Wynn. He went on to be a dramatic actor during the late years of his life, winning an Oscar for his supporting role in 1959's, The Diary of Anne Frank. Its a shame more of these programs don't exist, as well the sound isn't better on the ones that do exist.
