Spoiler : Raymond Edward Johnson Born Kenosha, Wisconsin, July 24, 1911 Died Wallingford, Connecticut, August 15, 2001 Age 90 (complications of multiple sclerosis) One of radio's busiest performers! We all remember him from Inner Sanctum and Crime Club (in which he was the librarian). But he was also Don Winslow and Mandrake the Magician. Raymond was also heard on Arch Oboler's Plays/Lights Out, Battle Stations, Ellery Queen, The Goldbergs, Behind the Mike, Cavalcade of America, Everyman's Theater, Great Plays, Murder at Midnight, Radio Reader's Digest, Dimension X, and even Fibber McGee and Molly! He came down with multiple sclerosis in the late 1950s which shortened his acting career, although he was relatively long lived. Raymond was a devout Christian who, despite the character for which he is remembered on Inner Sanctum, was said to be a very joyful person when times were at their worst.

Married and divorced to radio actress Betty Caine (?-1971). Johnson and Caine had met while working on the radio soap, Young Hickory during the late 1930's. Johnson studied drama at Chicago's Goodman Theatre, then was a teacher before turning to acting on Chicago radio.

Spoiler : Mr Johnson's bio info says he started his career in Chicago, but interviews had him acknowledging initial work on radio station WRJN, which had a 1930's studio in his hometown of Kenosha-WI (station based in neighboring Racine). As the station archivist, having worked there 39-years, I only learned of Mr Johnson's connection in March 2021. It was an exciting discovery.
