Spoiler : Born in Gainesville, Florida; died 8/23/1999 at age 87 from complications of Alzheimer's disease at the Sibley Hospital in Washington, D.C. Married and divorced to Albert N. Williams, Jr. (1941-?); Oliver Presbrey (1952-1988 his death). Rountree spent her youth in Columbia, South Carolina. At age nine, Rountree wrote a short story titled, "This Crazy World." She attended the University of South Carolina, but left before graduating to work as a reporter for the Columbia Record, then the Tampa Tribune. She moved to New York in 1938 to work as an editor and freelance journalist.

Spoiler : Creator-producer of Leave It To The Girls on Mutual-Radio (1945-1949); NBC-TV (1949-1951); ABC- TV (1953-1954). In 1945 Rountree and Lawrence Spivak (editor-publisher of the American Mercury magazine) created and produced Meet the Press on Mutual-Radio for which Rountree was the moderator-director (1945-1947); NBC-TV (1947-1953). Following a coin toss in 1953, Rountree sold her interest in Meet The Press to Spivak for $125,000.

In the 1990's, she was associated with America's Prayer Network, serving as its president. At the 1997 50th anniversary celebration of Meet The Press (held at the National Building Museum in Washington) Rountree was honored as the only female moderator of the program.
