The script was used on the Gunsmoke television series on December 20, 1958. Matt and Chester see Walt Gorman meanly shoot an innocent dog. Chester takes it back to the jail so that if the owner turns up he can give his pet a burial. They find out that the dog belonged to an old guy named Pony Thomson who lived out on the prairie. He is a nice old man who once a year comes in to town to get drunk. He asks the Marshall who killed his dog but Matt won’t give him the name, as he fears that Pony is after retribution.|
