Spoiler : Dear Jean, My grandfather, William Hiden, mentioned to me at an early age that he used to listen to the composer Hyden. I foolishly thought he ment Joseph Haydn! Only later, when researching the Hiden family, I discovered Clarence Hiden, who later changed his name to Walford Hyden when he went to the Royal Academy of Music. His younger brother Donald (Don) is mentioned in Walford Hyden's 1911 Census entry. I know very litte about Walford's brothers, but I have a considerable amount of information about Walford. He married (Cleo Nordie) in Sydney at the end of Anna Pavlova's 1929 tour. I would love to hear more about your memories and would be happy to share what I have about Walford. Spoiler : My father, Max Hyden, used to play (live) music with the BBC Midland Light Orchestra in the 50's. He was a free lance musician, playing double bass. I would love to hear of anyone who remembers him and who played wit him. He also played occasional with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (cello) and also with a dance band with a summer season at the Winter Gardens in Weston-Super-Mare (Vernon Adcock), in the 50's. He was originally in the RAF orchestra and was played in the Hebrides, Salisbury Plains and many other places during the second world war. He eventually ended up working and living in Birmingham.
