Avalon Cigarettes was seeing red at teh end of the 1930s.
Their variety program,Avalon Time, was on the Red Network, the got Country Music pioneer Red Foley to host it, and his first guest was funny man Red Skelton. Skelton proved so popular with listeners that he was moved into the co-host slot after one broadcast, and very soon audiences were identifying the program with their favorite clown.
All of this was perfectly fine with Avalon, as long as people kept tuning in. And buying lots of Avalon Cigarettes.
