Spoiler : The cast list posted for this episode is almost entirely people who weren't involved with it at all. I suspect this might be an audition recording for the 1945 series of "Arch Oboler's Plays", because Oboler doesn't seem to have acted in his 1945 radio series, and because Vincent sounds very much like Elliott Lewis. (Oboler had worked with Lewis since 1939, and would give him an "extra special thanks to" credit on a later 1945 episode.) I don't think this is the original April 1945 broadcast either. No cast members are credited on it, nor in the newspaper listings & articles promoting the broadcast, but an earlier article said that Oboler was trying to get Franchot Tone to play Vincent. It doesn't sound like Tone on this recording. Also, the "Lights Out" intro was tacked onto this at some point. It never aired on "Lights Out". According to newspaper listings, the play was done twice, with different casts. There's some confusion about the first production (April 19, 1945). Promo articles in newspapers said it was to be the play on the series premiere (April 12), and would star the cast members of Oboler's very first radio play (done in 1939). However, the April 11 News-Review (Roseburg, Oregon) said that the April 12 play would actually be "Strange Morning". And the following week's promo articles said "Lust For Life" had been postponed from April 12. The second (August 16, 1945) starred John Garfield, Lee J. Cobb, and Morris Carnovsky. The posted episode certainly isn't that one. Based on the evidence, I believe that this is an audition recording for the 1945 series of "Arch Oboler's Plays".
