The good doctor, Wayne Hudson dies by drowning in the lake beside the sanatorium. Unfortunately for Robert Taylor who plays Robert Merrick he happens to be on the lung machine when they bring Dr. Wayne in, so the staff cannot put him on the lung machine and consequently he dies.
