Spoiler : SGT Curtis Culin grew up in Cranford, NJ and lived there after WW II until his death. His invention of the "Rhino" hedgerow cutter enabled American tanks to cut through the tough hedgerows in the French Bocage immediately after D-Day. These centuries-old dense tree/hedges surrounding farms forced American tanks upwards - making their canons ineffective and exposing their lightly armored undersides. Culin's invention - rushed into production in a week - allowed American amour to break out of Normandy. For his efforts, SGT Cullin was awarded the Legion of Merit and is cited by both General Eisenhower and General Omar Bradley in their reflections on WW II. A building at the U.S. Army's Armour headquarters at Ft Knox is named for SGT Culin. Victor A. Bary, Curator Cranford Historical Society
