It’s Election Day in Summerfield; Rumsom Bullard versus Twilleger for mayor and being a party who is vitally interested in the outcome our water commissioner is up bright and early campaigning for his neighbor Bullard though Gildy is confident that no matter how the election goes he cannot lose. The Good Government Club of Wistful Vista has offered $250 to the election officials who bring out the voters in their precinct 100%. Here, presiding at the polling place (which also happens to be their home at 79 Wistful Vista) we find those two eager officials Fibber McGee & Molly! The actual election returns, (indicating an early lead for Roosevelt) are cleverly integrated into the program. t’s late Sunday night and the final week of campaigning is over and only one day remains before the good citizens of Summerfield go to the polls to cast their votes in the Primary. It’s been a hard week but the decision now is in the lap of the gods and candidate Gildersleeve is in the arms of Morpheus. Through his weary brain run troubled fantasies and he tosses and twists in his sleep as he argues with himself. If he gets the nomination Tuesday he’s as good as elected and if he gets nominated mayor, Eve Goodwin has promised to marry him but if Eve marries him Mother Goodwin comes to live with them…!|
