Our Miss Brooks, was a radio sitcom that first aired on CBS Radio on July 19, 1948. It told the story of an English teacher Connie Brooks, which was portrayed by American actress Eve Arden. It was such a hit among many listeners that during its run, it received several awards including Arden winning the Radio Mirror magazine's poll for the best radio comedienne of the year for the years 1948 and 1949. Other actors and actresses included in the show were Gale Gordon, Don Porter, Robert Rockwell, Jane Morgan, and many more. The Our Miss Brooks radio show's last episode was aired on 1957. A year before the radio series ended, it had a television, stage play, and film adaptations of the same title. Eve Arden was even offered to teach English in different High Schools. The movie is a bit rushed, but she does wind up with Mr. Boynton, when the best ending would for her to wake up and realize Mr. Boyton is gay.

Yeah, sort of. In the movie, but never in the radio show, or the short lived tv show. But Gildersleeve movies didn't seem to be quite in the same universe as the radio show, so maybe Connie was the same?

I did chuckle a lot at the episode where they're collecting clothes for the needy and Connie gets to say to Mr Boynton "Go into my room and take off your clothes!". I wonder what sort of look she gave him when they had the rehearsal for that episode

Crenna ended up often playing tough guy roles as a movie and TV actor later in his career--and doing a great job in such roles. That's one reason I like his performance as Walter so much--it's so different from what he did later on. Who would have imagined Walter Denton growing up to be Rambo's commanding officer? I guess dealing with Osgood Conklin prepares you for anything.

I was listening to Our Miss Brooks today when I was struck by what seemed to be a laugh track in the recording. We are all aware of laugh tracks on many of today’s inane TV comedies. I am wondering if any of the OTR shows had laugh tracks. Were all the old shows with laughter performed before a studio audience?

There is a nice file on CD 1 with program history, and a list of the programs on the CDs. This series is one of the best situation comedy series ever aired on radio, later telecast on TV. Former chorus girl, Eve Arden played Madison High School English teacher Connie Brooks, who was always chasing her heart throb, Mr Boynton, who was played by Jeff Chandler (Robert Rockwell in 1951). Connie was always running afoul of Principal Osgood Conklin, who was played by the master radio actor, Gale Gordon. Fantastic great radio comedy.
