Born in Chicago, Illinois 9/28/1901; died 10/26/1990 of pneumonia and a heart attack in New York. Married and divorced to socialite Dorothy Hart-Hearst (1939-1945); Barbara Cushing (1947-?). Following his education at The Wharton School of Commerce, he began his career as the vice president of his father's Congress Cigar Company (1922-1928). During that time, he was exposed to the growing medium of radio advertising.

In 1928, he founded CBS (Columbia Broadcasting System) with one million dollars his father gave him to "play" with. He served as president of CBS (1928-1946), then was Chairman of the Board for the network from 1946 to 1983 when he retired.

Paley created the first radio editorial program, "America's Hour" that debuted 7/14/1935. He recieved many awards including the first Annual Atas Governor's Award presented in 1978.
