Lopez, Vincent (Vicent Joseph Lopez) Born in Brooklyn, New York 12/30/1894; died 9/20/1975 of liver and pancreas failure in Miami Beach, Florida. Married to May Kenny (?-?); Betty Long (1951-?). Lopez was taught piano by his father. Later he went to business school, and studied to be a priest before turning to music. He began his music career playing piano in restaurants and clubs, then formed his band in 1917. His first bands were named The Red Caps and The Cadets.

On screen in The Big Broadcast Of 1932. Lopez was a bandleader/pianist that became one of the first bandleaders to switch to Dixieland Jazz and is credited with being the first bandleader to broadcast "live" music on radio at station WJZ (11/27/1921). Credited with discovering actress Betty Hutton. Author of books including "Lopez Speaking." Lopez was dubbed the "Pianner Kid" by Jimmy Durante.

Lopez always opened his radio programs with, "Hello everybody, Lopez speaking." Lopez's band remotes were broadcast from the Grill Room in the New York City Hotel Taft beginning in 1921. The Vincent Lopez Orchestra provided music for radio programs on CBS (1928); NBC-BLUE (1933); CBS (1934); NBC-BLUE (1941-1943); Mutual (1943-1946); syndicated program, Pleasure Parade (1945-1947) NBC (1950-1951); ABC (1951-1956). Host of Luncheon With Lopez on Mutual-Radio (1947-1956).

Lopez was the first bandleader to telecast a "live" remote music program on television. The program originated from New York's Hotel Taft in 1949. The Vincent Lopez Orchestra provided music for television programs including Welcome Aboard on NBC (11/1948-2/1949). Star of The Vincent Lopez Show and Dinner Date With Vincent Lopez (both on DuMont-TV 1949-1950).
