Spoiler : His film career pretty much ended in 1951, after he beat actor Franchot Tone, who suffered a smashed cheekbone, broken nose and a concussion. In 1965, he was brought to trial for murdering his wife, by a .45-caliber to the back of her head. Prosecutors sought the death penalty, and he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to ten years in prison, served six. He got out of prison 12/7/1971.
