Spoiler : Smiley Burnette had his own radio show in the 1950s. It fit in a 15 minute time slot and was kind of like Gene Autry's Melody Ranch, but without the short dramatic section. It's kind of like a radio precursor of TV's Hee Haw show. There are 200+ episodes readily available online. Quite a few include guest stars ranging from former Louisiana Governor Jimmie Davis (composer of "You Are My Sunshine") to jazz violinist Joe Venuti! The regular music is from The Whippoorwills, a string band (lead guitar, mandolin, rhythm guitar, string bass) which has a sort of cowboy-jazz vibe going on. "Sweet Georgia Brown" (nee Juanita Vastine) sings, as do the Whips.
