Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 9/4/1891; died 5/5/1977 in Florida. Brother of orchestra leaders Howard and Lester Lanin. Sam Lanin formed his orchestra shortly after the end of WWI, His orchestra performed in New York's Roseland Ballroom for 13 years. Leader of bands called The Broadway Bell-Hops; Lanin's Red Heads; The Melody Sheiks; The New York Syncopators.

For radio, Lanin is remembered for leading The Ipana Troubadours band on NBC (ca late 1920's to 1934). Lanin's orchestra provided music for other radio programs including Eugene International Revue on CBS (1932); Arthur Tracy, The Street Singer on The Pillsbury Pagent for CBS (1932).
