Spoiler : Hayes, Sam (birth name was Samuel Stewart Hayes) Born in Cookesville, Illinois 11/4/1904; died 7/28/1958 of a heart attack suffered as he was preparing to go on the air at KSDO-San Diego, California. Following graduation from Stanford in 1929 Hayes became a radio newscaster. In 1949, Hayes was severely injured in the private plane crash that killed vocalist Buddy Clark. Screen debut playing a radio announcer in The Crowd Roars (1932). Last movie was playing the 1932 Olympic announcer in Jim Thorpe - All-American (1951).

Spoiler : Always a west coast radio personality, he was heard on radio programs including Daily Spectator; Euclid Ballot Box; Hollywood Highlights; Newstime with Sam Hayes; Night Reporter; The People's Vote; Pointing the Periscope; The Richfield Reporter; Sperry Breakfast News.

Spoiler : For some weird reason I thought of Sam Hayes for the first time in many decades. Our family always listened to his Sperry Breakfast News, which began the program with a rooster crowing.
