Born on a farm near Carmichaels, Pennsylvania; died 1/20/2004 at age 92 at his home in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. He ran away from home at age sixteen to work in Detroit. Returned home and attended Waynesburg College. Moved to Denver and worked on The Big Top radio program. Moved to Oklahoma City and worked at WKY, then New York in 1945. Lieutenant Carpenter on the Mutual and NBC Radio Network soap, Front Page Farrell (1941-1954).

Television actor from the early 1950s to the early 1990s. Played Rockford's father on the 1974 pilot episode of The Rockford Files telecast on NBC. Screen debut playing Pete the guide in Cold River (1982). Last movie was playing the old timer in Last of the Dogmen (1995).
