Nicknamed the "Ol' Redhead" (even though he wasn't a redhead). He was the Voice for the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team on radio WHN and the Mutual Network and television (1939-1953). Announcer for Broadway Matinee on CBS-Radio (1943-1944). Sports commentator on Hear It Now for CBS-Radio (1950-1951); Monitor for NBC-Radio (1955-1974?). CBS-Radio sports director beginning in 1946.

Host of Red Barber's Club House on CBS-TV (1949-1953), Red Barber's Corner on CBS-TV, later on NBC-TV (1949-1958); the NBC Sports Spot for NBC-TV in 1958 for the first two weeks of the program. He was the pre-game and post-game interviewer at the Yankee Stadium (1958-?). Barber was inducted into Baseball's Hall of Fame in 1978.

Barber, Red (birth name was Walter Lanier Barber) Born in Columbus, Mississippi 2/17/1908; died 10/22/1992 of an intestinal disorder in Tallahassee, Florida. Began his radio career at the University of Florida's station WRUF (1930), then moved to Cincinnati and worked at WSAI and WLW (1931-1939).
