Harris wrote the Broadway Ballyhoo column in the Hollywood Reporter for close to five decades. From her base in Midtown Manhattan, she reported on the comings and goings of entertainment icons in New York, Hollywood and Europe throughout her career. Harris was an originator of the Stage Door Canteen in New York, also an executive board member of the American Theater Wing. In addition to her Hollywood Reporter work, she was a longtime reporter for CBS Radio, broadcasting from the famous Sardi's restaurant in New York, or the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

"Louella Parsons" couldn't spell, and "Heda Hopper" wore a large hat, and was a Republican, while Harris was a Democrat, she once told Back Stage magazine. Honored with a Special Citation of Merit in 1982 by the Publicists Guild of America.
