He graduated with a degree in law, but decided to be a radio announcer an newscaster. In 1931 he began working at KMOX-St Louis, Missouri. In 1933 he moved to WLW-Cincinatti, Ohio where he became chief announcer for the station. Narrator for WLW's Moon River program during the 1930s and 1940s. Network radio programs he was assiciated with are Avalon Time; Famous Jury Trials; Front Page Farrell; Smilin' Ed McConnell's Buster Brown Gang.
