Father of actor Anthony Perkins. He graduated from Harvard University in 1914. In 1915, he joined the US Army to serve as an ambulance driver during WWI. He studied violin for nine years, but turned to acting. On screen in The Cradle Buster (1922); Gold Diggers of 1937. He made his Broadway debut in 1924. Host of The Flying Red Horse Tavern on CBS-Radio (1935-1936).
