Born in Hastings, Nebraska 10/29/1922. Hefti began his career as a trumpeter/ arranger with bands of Woody Herman, Harry James and Count Basie before form- ing his own group. The Neal Hefti Orchestra provided music for The Kate Smith Show on CBS-TV (1960). Composed and provided the music for Batman theme used on the ABC-TV series (1966-1968).
