Spoiler : Main, Marjorie (Mary Tomlinson) Born in Acton, Indiana 2/24/1890; died 4/10/1975 of cancer in Los Angeles, California. Married to psychologist Doctor Stanley L. Krebs (?-1935 his death). On screen in some eighty movies including A House Divided (1932); Dead End (1937); The Egg And I (1947). The Egg And I was the first appearence o charac- ters Ma and Pa Kettle that became the popular movie series (1949-1957). Guest star on radio programs including a role in We Hold These Truths presented on Twenty-Six by Corwin for CBS (12/15/1941).

Spoiler : MARJORIE MAIN (1890 ~ 1975) Main was the best example of 'Character Actress As Star'. She alternated between memorable supporting parts and memorable leads --- reaching her zenith as 'Ma Kettle' in a series of ten 'Ma & Pa Kettle' films. She usually played a tough, no nonsense character (at times armed with a shotgun). She took over where Marie Dressler left off - being paired opposite Wallace Beery in a series of films, such as: "Barnacle Bill" (1941), "The Bugle Sounds" (42), "Jackass Mail" (42), "Rationing" (44), "Bad Bascomb" (46) and "Big Jack" (49). Her first role as 'Ma Kettle' was in "The Egg And I" (47 - Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination) and continued on with nine more Kettle films, from "Ma and Pa Kettle" (49) to "The Kettles On Old MacDonald's Farm" (57). She had stand-out supporting roles in classics such as: "Stella Dallas" (37), "Dead End" (37), "Test Pilot" (38), "The Women" (39), "A Woman's Face" (41), "Meet Me In St. Louis" (44), "The Harvey Girls" (46) and "Summer Stock" (50). She also had lead roles in "Tish" (42), "Gentle Annie" (44) and "Mrs. O'Malley and Mr. Malone" (50). Marjorie passed in 1975 at age 85.
