MARION DAVIES (1897 ~ 1961) Davies was popular during the silent era and up through the 1930s, especially the first half. She was newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst's mistress for many years - and he attempted to manage her career. The best of her films included: "When Knighthood Was In Flower" (1922), "Little Old New York" (23), "Lights Of Old Broadway" (25), "The Patsy" (28), "Show People" (28), "Not So Dumb" (30), "Polly Of The Circus" (32) and "Going Hollywood" (33).

She was NOT married to W.R. Hearst. She was his long time (until his death) mistress. He did kind of wreak her career. He had a wife and children that all knew about Marion. The boys used to get her to intervene and get help from their father. There are Pictures of the boys on vacation in Europe with Marion and others. Did you know she endowed a children's hospital in California. She was quite a gal.

MARION DAVIES was one of the great stars of the Golden Era. She starred in 48 films between 1917 and 1937 and was the #1 female box office star of 1922-23. She was a beloved figure within the Hollywood community, famous for her parties and for her generosity. She donated millions to children's hospitals and the Marion Davies Children's Clinic still stands at UCLA.

She would have been a star if Hearst had never happened. She was also a delightful and very considerable person. Davies (1897 ~ 1961) began her career in the silent era and hit her peak during the second half of the 1920s and the first half of the 1930s. She excelled at comedy, but her romantic partner - newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst - founded Cosmopolitan Pictures to produce her films and demanded that she mainly appear in dramas.

Her last film was "Ever Since Eve" in 1937. The character of Susan in "Citizen Kane" (1941) was assumed to be inspired by Marion Davies and her relationship with Hearst. Marion passed in 1961 at age 64.

Marion was a wonderful comedic actress. Too bad Hearst got in the way of her career. A terrific hostess and witty woman, she was very well liked by everyone in the Hollywood community.
