Born in Elmira, New York 9/13/1883; died 4/23/1947 of a stroke in Garrison, New York. Attended Elmire Free Academy, served in the US Army, then embarked on his prison career as a guard. He studied sociology which led to his promotion to warden of Sing Sing located in Ossining, New York from 1920 to 1941. Author of a book titled, "20,000 Years in Sing Sing."
