Married to Lynn Cartwright (1950-2000 his death). Gordon joined the Army in 1941, was discharged in 1943. He drifted to Southern California, turning to robbery. After serving four years in San Quentin he returned to New York working in construction, then used his G.I. Bill to study acting. Screen debut in Gun Fury (1953). Last movie was Maverick (1994).
