Born in Swansea, South Wales 5/30/1890; died 12/26/1962 of a heart attack. Moved to London, England with his family when he was three years old. After studying and practising law in England, he came to America in 1911, where he became a patent attorney and theatrical personality. In 1918, Langner and Theresa Helburn organized The Theater Guild.

Langner was one of three hosts for The Theater Guild On The Air (aka US Steel Hour) on the CBS, ABC and NBC Radio Networks (1943-1953).

Lagner also founded The American Shakespeare Theatre and Academy, and was owner of The Westport, Connecticut Country Theater.
