Born in Olathe, Kansas 12/13/1914; died 4/13/1975 of a heart attack in Studio City, California. Married to actress Betty Garrett (1944-1975 his death). Father of composer Garrett Parks, actor Andrew Parks. Screen debut in Mystery Ship (1941). Last movie was Freud (1962). Noted for playing Al Jolson in the 1946 movie, "Jolson Sings Again," Jolson's singing voice was dubbed for the movie. Television character actor from the early 1950s to the early 1960s.

Parks pretty much ended his own career after he became the first actor to admit he had belonged to a Communist cell from 1941 to 1951. He also became the only actor and movie name among the original 19 people named by the House of Un- American Activities Committee formed during the McCarthy-era to root out the Red Menace working in the arts.
