Spoiler : Born in Sir Lowry Pass, South Africa 11/17/1905; died 4/27/1978 in Los Angeles, California. Marais met Miranda, his future wife and partner in Holland during WWII. Studied music at The South African College of Music and The Royal Academy in London, England. He was a concert violinist on BBC Radio before he became a folk singer. He came to America in 1939, and became a citizen in 1945. Creator, host and singer on African Trek for NBC-BLUE (1939-1943), again on ABC-Radio (1946- 1947). During WWII, he served with OWI (The Office of War Information), and performed on broadcasts for The Voice of America. Josef and Miranda Marais made their New York debut in 1946 and was featured on many radio programs including Meredith Wilson's show in 1949, later were guest stars on television variety programs such as The Red Skelton Show and The Doris Day Show. During the latter part of his career, he and his wife were teachers in Southern California.
