Born in Portland, Maine 4/29/1912; died 1/28/1984 in South Portland, Maine. Educated at Williams College and Oxford University. Newspaperman associated with The Brooklyn Eagle, The New York Sun, and The London Daily Express, before he became a foreign correspondent for The International News Service.

At the outbreak of WWII in the late 1930s, NBC (later ABC) hired him as a correspondent. He reported for the networks from London, North Africa, and followed the Allied Armies in Europe from D-Day to Germany's surrender in 1945. News commentator for a weekly fifteen-minute newscast on NBC (1945-1946).

Hall

United Nations correspondent for thirty-two years, first for NBC, then ABC until his 1977 retirement. Host of United Or Not? for ABC-TV (1950-1952). In 1982 he moved back to his home state of Maine, and was a news commentator on a weekly local WMTW television newcast.
