Gwendolyn Dew (1903-1993) traveled around the world writing for the Detroit News in the late 1930s. In 1941 she was caught in Hong Kong upon the Japanese invasion, and spent time in a concentration camp. Upon her release in a prisoner exchange, she returned to the U.S. and wrote a series of sensational chilling articles about her ordeal for the News, and in newspapers across the country. Her 1943 book "Prisoner of the Japs" was dramatized by NBC radio as part of their "Words at War" series.
