Born in Panama; died 3/23/2002 at age 92 of congestive heart failure at a nursing home in Louisville, Kentucky. Davenport wrote the novel Mr Belvedere in 1947, a tale of an English butler who goes to work for a dysfunctional American family to obtain material for a book he was writting. The novel was adapted to three movies starring Clifton Webb, Sitting Pretty (1948); Mr Belvedere Goes to College (1949); Mr Beveldere Rings the Bell.

There were three attempts made for television pilots, but all failed. They include a 1956 version starring Reginald Gardiner; 1959 starring Hans Conreid; 1965 starring Victor Bruno. Mr Belvedere was on ABC-TV (1985-1990).
