Spoiler : Edwards, Gus (birth name was Gus Simon) Born in Hohensaliza, Germany (some sources say Inowroclaw, Poland) 8/18/1879; died 11/7/1945 of a heart attack relating to his long battle with cancer in Los Angeles, California. Uncle of actors Joan, Jack and Sam Edwards. Edwards was called, "the Star Maker." Some of the ones that Edwards discovered and made a star of include Eddie Cantor, George Jessel, Groucho Marx, Eleanor Powell, Hildegarde, Ray Bolger and Mae Murray. Composer of tunes including School Days, In My Merry Oldsmobile and By The Light Of The Silvery Moon.

Spoiler : Host of his own Mutual show sponsored by Warner Brothers Motion Picture Studios (1936). Regular guest star on The Good News Of 1938 for NBC-Radio. He retired in 1939 due to illness. Dumont- TV's 1949 School House program was based on Edwards' popular "School Days" turn of the century vaudeville routine.
