Born in Portland, Oregon 3/18/1893; died 3/18/1971 (his birthday) in Paramus, New Jersey. Married and divorced to actress Ethel Shutta (?-?). Drummer that began his career in his home town in Ray Robinbson's band. He formed his own band in 1917. He moved to New York in 1924 playing in hotels, ballrooms, and in Broadway musicals. Recording artist on the RCA Victor record label. On screen with his orchestra in Happy Days (1930).

The George Olsen band provided music for radio programs including The Jack Benny Program on NBC-BLUE (1932; The Jack Pearl Show on NBC (1932-1935); Tim And Irene on NBC-BLUE (1938). Following Orville Knapp's death in 1936, Olsen took over his band. Olsen quit show business in 1951 to run a restaurant in Paramus, New Jersey.
