Krupa, Gene (birth name was Eugene Bertram Krupa)
Born in Chicago, Illinois 1/15/1909; died 10/16/1973 of leukemia and a heart ailment in Yonkers, New York. Married to Ethel May Fawcett (?-? her death); Patti Bowler (1959-?). The "Drummer Dean" or, the "Percussion King" as he was nicknamed, began his drumming career at age twelve. Studied to be a priest at St. Joseph's College, but quit to return to music.

Krupa was a drummer with bands of Joe Kyser (1926); Red Nichol (1929); Benny Goodman during the early to middle 1930's, appearing at Chicago's Congress Hotel and New York's Paramount Theater. In 1938, he formed his own group, The Gene Krupa Orchestra, which appeared on radio in band remotes broadcast on CBS from the Steel Pier in Atlantic City. Guest star on radio programs including The Story Of Swing for WMCA-New York (1939); Matinee At Meadowbrook for CBS (1941); Eddie Condon's Jazz Concerts for NBC-BLUE and ABC (1944-1945)

Krupa appeared in some twenty-five movies. He also provided his drumming for the 1959 sound track of, The Gene Krupa Story (starring Sal Mineo as Krupa).
