Spoiler : Born in Washington, D.C. 7/16/1887; died 9/24/1939 (in the same bed he was born in) of a heart attack at his farm in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania. He was a freelance newspaperman that traveled the world over for stories.

Spoiler : Gibbons was a pioneer of on-the-spot-remote-news, and he was able to speak 217 words-a-minute while bradcasting. Veteran correspondent of every war beginning with his coverage of Pancho Villa raid on Columbus, New Mexico. Gibbons was wounded three times during WWI including while covering Belleau Wood, and the ship he was aboard was torpedoed while crossing the Atlantic, causing him to loose his left eye which he covered with a white patch which became his trademark.

Spoiler : Radio debut was in the Phillippines. First broadcast was in America was at WGN-Chicago where he hosted a special Christmas program relating stories of his Christmases past covering wars. One of the creators and was the host of Headline Hunters on NBC-Radio (1929-1930).
