Janis, Elsie (birth name was Elsie Bierbauer) Born in Columbus, Ohio 3/16/1889; died 2/26/1956 in Los Angeles, California. She began her career at age ten on stage, billed and Little Elsie. Screen debut in The Caprices Of Kitty (1941). Charter member of ASCAP in 1941. During WWI she entertained troops, and became known as, "The Sweetheart of the A.E.F."

Janis made her radio debut as a guest star on The Eveready Hour for WEAF-New York during the early 1920's. Substitute host for Robert L. Ripley on his Believe-It-Or-Not for NBC-Radio (1932). Janis joined NBC-Radio for a brief time as a staff announcer in 1934, and is credited with being the first female "Network Radio" announcer.
