Born in New York 8/11/1913; died 2/23/1998 in her Manhattan, New York home. Attended Smith College. Studied acting at Berkshire Playhouse in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Served as casting director for The Blow Agency.

Writer for True Or False on the Mutual abd NBC-BLUE Radio Networks (1938-1941). Writer and researcher for Take It Or Leave It on CBS and NBC (1940-1950). Oliver began contributing to The New Yorker magazine in 1947, then became the magazines movie and theater critic from 1961 to her retirement in 1991.
