Spoiler : Born in Brooklyn, New York 2/13/1913; died 10/7/2005 in Los Angeles, California. He had been in poor health since having heart surgery in March of 2005. Began as writer of short stories that was published in the Saturday Evening Post; The New Yorker; Punch, an English magazine. Served in the US Navy during WWII - co-founding the Armed Forces Radio, for which he wrote for training films and entertainment for troops. Following the end of the war he began writing for radio, then television. Writer for movies including his first Main Street Lawyer (1939), and his last, Taps (1981), which was an adaption of his novel about his experiances in military school.

Spoiler : He earned a Writer's Guild of America award in 1957 for writing the television drama, "The Great American Hoax" that starred Ed Wynn. A former secretary-treasurer of the guild, he also earned the Guild Service Award in 1982 for his decades of work in the organization. He also served on the board of trustees of the Motion Picture and Television Fund and on the board of the Writer's Guild.
