Spoiler : Hawkins, Coleman (nicknames were Bean and Hawk) Born in St. Joseph, Missouri 11/21/1904; died 5/19/1969 of a liver disease in New York City. On screen in one movie, The Crimson Canary (1945). Hawk was a tenor saxophonist jazz musician that became a legend in his own time, that became known as "the father of the tenor sax." He began at age fifteen as a member of Mamie Smith's Jazz Hounds, then played with Wilbur Sweetman's band before he joined Fletcher Henderson (1923-1934). After leaving Henderson's band he toured Europe, then when he returned in 1939, he formed his own group, and later became a free-lance musician at clubs and with combos. Hawkins tutored Charlie Parker and Sonny Rollins. Hawkins was on many band remotes during the 1930s to the 1950s. Inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 1982.

Spoiler : The only movies he appeared in was playing a saxophonist in Stormy Weather (1943), and he had a cameo in After Hours (1961). He tried acting on TV once, playing Snooze in Goodnight Sweet Blues, an episode of Route 66 telecast on CBS (10/6/1961).
