Born 9/18/1873; died 9/1/1948 of suicide by hanging. Cousin of poet Eugene Field. Radio debut in 1925 on San Francisco's KGO, "Good morning, this is Cheerio." Moved to New York in 1927. Host of a six-times-a-week 8:30 AM show for NBC-Radio (1927-1937); Cheerio's Musical Mosaics on NBC-Radio (1936); NBC-BLUE thirty minute Sunday program (1937-1940). Retired in 1940.
