Charles Barrett was an alias used very briefly, by Elliott Lewis. A voracious reader, he probably based it on Charles Dickens and Elizabeth Browning. His usual alias was Bruce Elliott. There was also a rather mediocre writer named Bruce Elliott, who wrote novels, as well as scripts for "The Shadow" and "The Whistler". This definitely wasn't Elliott Lewis!
