Spoiler : Born in Wakefield, Kentucky 12/19/1908; died 3/17/2003 from complications of a stroke at his home in Nashville, Tennessee. Carlse began his career singing professionally with his brother, Cliff Carlisle in the early 1930s. When Cliff retired from the act in 1947, Bill formed his own group, the Carlisles. The Carlisles' hit tunes were, "No Help Wanted, Is Zat You, Myrtle?, What Kinda Deal Is This?, and Too Old to Cut the Mustard." Carlisle also wrote the hymn, "Gone Home."

Spoiler : Carlisle was nicknamed, "Jumpin Bill," because he jumped around the stage so much while performing. At the time of his death, Carlisle was the oldest performer on the Grand Ole' Opry. He had quit performing the month before his death. Carlisle, always known for his trademark of leaping in the air while performing, in later years would walk on stage with the aid of a walker, perform, and then hoist it over his shoulder and walk proudly off on his own, as the audience cheered. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in November of 2002.
