In the 1930s, he studied to be an actor, then served four years as a Palestine Policeman. At the beginning of WWII, he joined the British Army working in their Intelligence, Corp. operating behind enemy lines in Libya and Tunisia. Following the end of WWII, he worked as police chief in Ethiopia, was a district officer in Somalia, and he was the founder of a Shakespearian theatrical company in Dar es Salaam, Tanganyika, Africa. His Caillou name was one of his many WWII aliases. He thought it to be a lucky name, so he took it to use when writing and acting.
