This is my Best was a 30-minute drama anthology series that aired from 1944 to 1946. It involved popular authors, such as Thorntorn Wilder and John Steinbeck, presenting their best works to be featured in the show. Most of the time, the authors chose unpopular works, or those that had never been dramatized before.

In 1945, Orson Welles started to work on the show as the actor, director, and narrator. It is said that he changed the show’s concept according to his liking and insisted that they only recreate classics and use stories that he thought would make a great movie. This caused him to be criticized by the network, and get fired eventually just after a  few months of stay. Since then, nevertheless, This is my Best had been used as a gauge to determine if a potential Hollywood movie would be a hit with the audience.
